Dispute in Times Square Ends in Gunfire — Three Injured, Suspect in Custody


A dispute between two teenagers turned violent in the heart of Times Square early this morning. The shooting happened at 44th Street and 7th Avenue around 1:20 a.m.

What Happened

Police say a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old argued before gunfire erupted. Three people were shot:

  • A 19-year-old man, hit in the foot.
  • An 18-year-old woman, grazed in the neck.
  • A 65-year-old man, struck in the thigh.

All three victims were taken to Bellevue Hospital. They are in stable condition, and their injuries are not life-threatening.

Witnesses Describe Panic

Witnesses said the shots caused chaos.

“People were just saying, ‘Shots fired! Shots fired!’ and everyone started running,” one witness recalled.
Some visitors initially mistook the noise for fireworks before realizing it was gunfire.

Suspect Arrested at the Scene

Police arrested the 17-year-old suspect at the scene. Officers recovered a gun, and charges are pending.

NYPD Investigation Continues

The NYPD is investigating the cause of the dispute and how the suspect obtained the weapon. Times Square, one of the busiest tourist spots in the world, returned to normal activity within hours.
